it is difficult to access the power button when the monitor is flipped around. it keep the kids happy on long trips. We love our PHILIPS 10.2" MULTI REGION ZONEFREE PORTABLE DVD. Other than that, the picture quality is great. We have had it for only about 10 months now, but since then it has been dropped at least once without any problem. My only complaint is the power button is akwardly positioned. from the back seat of our minivan, one can see clearly and sound is clear too. Battery life is only about 2 hours, but with the external connection, that's not a big problem.
Please do a lot of research on this machine. But for $290.00 it may be best to look elsewhere. Mine holds a charge for over 2 hours easily. Apparently after a year or 2, the internal part that controls the laser eye gets stuck and makes an annoying noise. This was a great device until today. I read many reviews stating that this issue was common. Look at other reviews. The picture is excellent.
You can not play the video. I did get 18 months out of it. If you plug it in while you are watching a movie, it actually charges the battery. I thought I had lucked out, but those reviews were quite accurate.
It is beautiful in appearance and performance. I can reassure other prospective customers that the player I received from VCT Electronics is exactly as advertised. The item was delivered to me promptly via FedEx. I was concerned about the review posted by Gail (Simone), so before making this purchase I sent an e-mail to VCT Electronics to confirm that the player would play all regions. The white plastic case is truly as lovely as a glistening pearl -- I gasped at first sight, as I was expecting some run-of-the-mill aluminum or stainless steel case.As this is a recent purchase, I cannot speak to the long-term reliability of this player. Perhaps Gail sought to save a bit and made her purchase from a seller other than VCT Electronics, someone who was not as scrupulous about adhering to the product description.
The other four sellers all had slightly lower prices (ranging from $210 to $215).
I immediately tried to play a Region 2 copy of Blott on the Landscape (I've given up waiting for BBC America to release a US version), and it played perfectly.
The picture is gorgeous, and the sound is splendid (no headphones required).
They kindly replied in the affirmative.
I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
And, of course, the US Region 1 DVDs I tried all worked perfectly as well.At the time I purchased this DVD player (April 2009), five sellers were listed on the Amazon page.
I made my purchase from the preferred seller, VCT Electronics, for a price of about $225.
The remote control even has volume and mute buttons, a great convenience that neither of my previous DVD players provided.
But the player I received definitely fits the Amazon description, and it is much nicer than I had expected.
I own the region-free one. There are two of these. Beautiful picture. One is a region-free and one is not. So be careful choosing. Wonderful sound. Highly recommended.
